BMW M43B16

BMW M43B16The BMW M43B16 is a 1.6 L (1,596 cc, 97.4 cu·in) straight-four natural aspirated four-stroke liquid-cooled internal combustion gasoline engine, manufactured by Bayerische Motoren Werke AG from 1991 to 2000.

A 84.0 mm (3.31 in) cylinder bore and 72.0 mm (2.83 in) piston stroke give the M43B16 engine a total of 1,596 cc of displacement. The compression ratio rating is 9.7:1.

The BMW M43B16 engine produced 102.0 PS (75 kW; 100.6 HP) at 5,500 rpm of maximum output power and 150.0 N·m (15.3 kg·m, 110.6 ft·lb) at 3,900 rpm of peak torque, or 81.6 PS (60 kW; 80.5 HP) at 5,500 rpm of horsepower and 127.0 N·m (13.0 kg·m, 93.6 ft·lb) at 3,900 rpm of torque for compressed natural gas (CNG) version.

The BMW M43B16 features:

  • Chain-driven single overhead camshaft (SOHC)
  • 8 valves with hydraulic tappets
  • Cast-iron cylinder block
  • Crankshaft with four counterweights
  • Multi Point Fuel Injection (MPFI)
  • Bosch Motronic M 1.7 engine management system
  • Dual length intake manifold (BMW “DISA”)
  • Camshaft position sensor and a knock sensor
  • Pressurized lubrication system
  • Liquid-cooled cooling system
