GM / Chevy L33 Vortec 5300 HO

GM / Chevy L33 Vortec 5300 HO engineThe GM / Chevy L33 Vortec 5300 HO is a 5.3 L (5,328 cc, 325.13 cu·in) natural aspirated V8 small-block four-stroke liquid-cooled internal combustion gasoline engine, manufactured by General Motors. The GM L33 engine (VIN code “B”) is a lightweight version of the LM7, and it was available in Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (4WD) and GMC Sierra 1500 (4WD) from 2005 to 2007.

The GM / Chevy L33 engine has a V8 lightweight aluminum cast block, flat top pistons from the LR4 Vortek 4.8 L, two aluminum heads with 16 overhead valves (OHV) and a single camshaft. This engine used a sequential fuel injection system and “Coil-Near-Plugs” ignition system with a composite distributor and pressurized lubricating system with a wet sump. The engine is equipped with a returnless fuel rail and 78.0 mm electronic (Drive-by-Wire) throttle.

The L33 engine produces 313 PS (230 kW; 310 HP) at 5,200 rpm of maximum horsepower and 441 Nm (45 kg·m; 325 ft·lb) at 4,000 rpm of peak torque.

Cylinder Head

The GM / Chevy L33 engine has two aluminum heads with 2 valves per cylinder (16 in total) and a single camshaft driven by the crankshaft via a chain. The intake port has a cathedral shape with 210 cc intake runner volume and the exhaust has a “D” shape with 75 cc exhaust runner volume. Intake and exhaust valves are made of steel with a solid stem. Valves are operated via pedestal mounting rocker arms.

This engine uses a composite intake manifold and high silicon molybdenum cast nodular iron exhaust manifold.
