The Honda F42 tiller is equipped with small general-purpose Honda G42F engine (171 cc, 10.4 cu-in), transmission with three forward speeds and reverse gear. The engine uses oil bath type air cleaner, horizontal carburetor with butterfly valve and recoil starter.
The Honda G42F is a single-cylinder air-cooled 4-stroke internal combustion engine with 66.0 mm (2.6 in) cylinder bore and 50.0 mm (2.0 in) piston stroke. Compression ratio rating is 6.5:1. The engine produced up to 4.5 PS at 4,000 rpm of maximum output power and 8.3 Nm (0.85 kg·m) at 3600 rpm of torque.
The Honda F42 transmission has three forward speeds and one speed for reversing. Power side clutches are built in on the wheel axle to connect and disconnect the engine power to each wheel respectively for steering. Engine power is transmitted to the driven pulley by means of the V-belt and it is then transmitted to the input shaft, countershaft, and final shaft in this order. The wheel shaft is driven by the final gear and chain.
